How can I get off a loan with the ex husband when he won't let me?

In December 2009 my 6 year old pug Dunkin decided to squeeze under the fence in the back yard into the neighbors yard. The result was that my neighbors dog, a Chow Shepard mix, attacked him. She actually is a very sweet dog to people, but is very territorial and didn't care for him entering her property. We have been in this house for 2 years and he has never gotten out before. I immediately rushed him to the vet, where they took an x-ray, bandaged him up (charged me $180) and told us to take him to the emergency vet clinic about 20 minutes away b/c they couldn't help him. At the emergency vet clinic they gave him some pain meds and opened up his wound to assess the injuries. After waiting there for about two hours I was told to go home and they would call me after while when he was stable to give me more information. About 1am that night, I awoke to a phone call from the ER telling me that it appeared that his injuries were pretty serious and more than they could handle. At the time my choice was to put him down or take him to a special surgeon an hour away and see if they could help. I elected to take him to the surgeon b/c I was not willing to give up on my little guy just like that. The next morning at 8am I picked him up from the clinic and took him to the specialist (the clinic insisted on keeping him over night to keep him on pain meds and in IV). When I picked him up he didn't open his eyes and was hooked up to an IV bag and a catheter. I carried him to the car after paying this ER vet another $1800 for his over night stay and medication. The specialist was very nice and took great care of my little guy. He was in pretty bad shape and had to have several surgeries to repair the damage to his leg. He also became endemic and required a blood transfusion. He was in the hospital for over a week, but he pulled through. He came home right before Christmas. He was still very sore and swollen and unable to walk, however he was alive and that was all I cared about. The bill for this care came to about $3,900 from this clinic putting my total cost at just under $6,000. I was only able to pay for his care by putting the $6,000 on my credit card. Needless to say, I am still struggling to pay the bill each month. I love my dog and if I had to do it all over again, I would do it exactly the same. I'm just wondering if there are any charities out there that might help by giving me some of this expense back? I tried to google the situation, but each charity I've found will only help if you make under $20,000 a year and I make about $45,000. I realize that to some that is a decent salary, however I have plenty of expenses including a mortgage, car payment and student loans. I have always been very responsible with my credit and didn't have any credit card debt until this situation happened. Also from what I've read, most charities only assist by paying the vet directly and in my case I've already paid the bill. I'm just trying to see if I can re-coop some of the cost to pay my credit card down or off. I have all the bills and pictures of my little guy showing how bad his injuries were. I'm just looking for a bit of help if possible. DeeDawg, it's not my motorcycle in the pic. I have sold a ton of stuff already, but nothing worth $6,000. Mostly old electronics and stuff on ebay which didn't make more than $20-50 a pop. All the money was paid to my credit card however, but I still owe about $5,000 I realize there are others less fortunate than me and I'm not looking for pity, just thought I would ask if anyone knew where I could get some help if it was even possible

what about that pretty motorcycle in your pic? i sold my 05 kawasaki to pay for dog stuff, and living expenses while i was underemployed- p.s. i'm a single working mother and i only make $20,000 a year, and i have a rental, car payment, etc. so sell something.

Your just not going to get the help put this down to a caring owner who paid there vet bills and will now struggle for a bit i have an £8.000 bank loan im paying off after my dog had brain surgery last year things are tight i could not insure my dog because he had so many medical problems but either insure in the future or put money in a separate account every month for vets bills for the future and im glad Dunkin recovered

I know how you feel. Ive tried on several occasions to find help for vet care and come up with nothing. I honestly wouldnt waste my money on this pet insurance crap.. they have soo many stipulations.. I have a dog with epilepsy and he is constantly racking up bills, at his normal vet and at the emergency vet. We also put it on the card, and then slowly pay it off. I cant find anything that helps. The only thing I can think that may help you is to possibly go to a local establishment Like a bowlling alley and ask them to hold a fundraiser. You would have to do the leg work like put up flyers. But you could make a large sum from that. Also you can contact local animal groups and ask them to post your situation online. You may get donations through them. 1 more option is to look around and find any metal, and take it to the junk yard. they pay money. not alot.. but something.
